Mission: Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship is committed to improving the lives of individuals impacted by disabilities and unique challenges through equine assisted services.
Programs: HippotherapyHippotherapy is a physical, occupational and speechtherapy treatment strategy that utilizes equine movement. In the controlled environment, the therapist modifies the horse?s movement and carefully gradessensory input. Specific riding skills are not taught (as in recreational horseback riding); but rather a foundation isestablished to improve neurological function and sensory processing.Patients respond enthusiastically to this enjoyable experience in a natural setting.Hippotherapy is utilized as part of an integrated treatment program to achieve functional outcomes. Hippotherapy is offered on an individual basis, withspecially trained physical and occupational therapists who use this treatment, one-on-one, for individuals with movement dysfunction. Riders with qualifying needs forhippotherapy can be as young as two years old.The CTRH program uses physical and occupational therapists. The therapists are members of NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association) andare registered AHA (American HippotherapyAssociation) therapists.Recreational RidingGroup riding lessons are taught by instructors certified by NARHA, our National Association. Each rider has a volunteer horse leader and up to two volunteer sidewalkers. Riders with varying types and degrees of disabilities can be as young as four years old and continue through adulthood.As Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship is a NARHA Premier Accredited program, a NARHA certified instructor is on the grounds for all equine assistedactivities and therapies. Many trained volunteers assist with side-walking and leading the horses. All CTRH horses have been trained extensively and are critical to the program.
