Mission: The Cincinnati Observatory Center will promote the study and practice of astronomy among a broad audience and assist professional and amateur astronomers, schools and universities to further their educational efforts on behalf of astronomy. While fulfilling this mission, The Cincinnati Observatory Center will maintain the integrity and heritage of an historic nineteenth-century observatory including relevant artifacts illustrating the history of science and the applications of astronomy throughout the years.
Results: The Observatory Center reopened to the public in 1999 and served 1,500 visitors. The Observatory now serves on average 20,000 annually. The Observatory's public and outreach programs have earned a national reputation for their quality and innovation.
Target demographics: General public 8 to 80 with an interest in the Universe. K-16 students and teachers from the entire Greater Cincinnati region.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Serves on average 20,000 visitors annually through outreach and on site programs.
Geographic areas served: Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southwest Indiana.
Programs: Public, Scout, K-16 student STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics) and Teacher Professional Development opportunities for all in the Greater Cincinnati region.
