Mission: The Church Council of Greater Seattle and its human service and advocacy programs has functioned for over 80 years as a unifying, progressive, ecumenical organization enabling the Christian community to put its faith into action to help its neighbors in need throughout King County, Washington. Founded in 1919 and designated a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization by the IRS in 1959, the Church Council represents and receives funding and volunteers from denominations across the spectrum of Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox congregations. The Church Council is an ecumenical leader on racial, social and economic justice issues and engages individuals and congregations in service to youth-at-risk, and homeless, mentally ill, elderly and destitute people. The Church Council works across all sectors of society to provide hope for marginalized people. Its many commissions, task forces and programs serve more than 5,700 people annually in King County, WA, and strengthen the local human service referral network.
