Causes: Arts & Culture, Theater

Mission: Children's musical theatre exists to enrich the lives of youth by providing quality musical theatre performance and educational opportunities. Our vision is to be recognized as a premier teaching and perfoming arts organization for youth, their families, and our community. Our core values include inspiring: creativity, confidence, community, character, and compassion.

Programs: The mainstage musical production of "annie" was a five week musical theatre intensive in which a cast of over 60 students ages 7-17 learned how to put on a full-scale broadway musical complete with elaborate sets, period- costumes, intricate lighting design, and a live orchestra. Typically, each production casts 65-85 students who live within a 40-mile radius of bartlesville, ok. Cmt hires different artistic staff from theatres across the us who have garnered national exposure to serve as directors, music directors, and choreographers for the main-stage summer musical. These industry professionals provide a high-quality educational experience for cast members while exposing them to different directors, a variety of directing styles, and ensure fair and unbiased casting. There is no charge for students to participate in the mainstage musical.

spotlite: special program on theater: lessons in theater education (spotlite) is a tuition-free, in-classroom theatre enrichment program that reaches every 4th grade student from local public and private schools and homeschool groups in bartlesville during the month of october. Taught by an oklahoma arts council artist-in-residence, this program introduces students to improvisation, nonverbal communication, and the structure of stories. On the final week, the 4th grade students tour the bartlesville community center where they enjoy hands-on lessons in elements of stagecraft, like lighting and makeup, before enjoying a live, interactive performance from missoula children's theatre. Spotlite showcases the many different skills necessary to bring a show to life.

stage school: the goal of children's musical theatre's stage school is to offer training classes in each discipline of musical theatre, acting, music and dance, so that students become true triple threats. Stage school classes are designed to build on one another and students will achieve specific learning objectives in each eight-week session. Each member of our stage school staff is degreed in his/her discipline and is trained to recognize students' abilities and challenge them to reach the next level of their craft. Cmt's stage school provides students with the opportunity to hone their performance skills and grow in teamwork, creativity, problem- solving, and self-confidence.

missoula children's theatre residency: based out of missoula, montana, the missoula children's theatre (mct) residency program is an international touring company that brings a new, original musical to bartlesville every fall. After auditioning nearly 200 k-8 students from local public and private schools, as well as homeschool groups, the mct team typically casts 50-60 students on the monday of production week and rehearses with them during that week so that they can present a full muscial play to the public on friday. Each mct show is an adaption of a classic children's story or fairy tale. Our partnership with missoula children's theatre is another tuition-free program cmt offers the community. School year productions: cmt's school year productions provide area students more audition, rehearsal, and performing experience as they have the opportunity to play more roles and work with more directors. Summer camps: in the two week production camps, students experience all aspects of performing in a musical production including auditioning, singing, acting, and dancing. Students receive instruction in choral singing, choreography, characterization, and blocking. These camps culminate in two performances of a condensed musical. Free monthly acting workshops: cmt offers a free acting workshop each month as a service to the community. There is a new topic each month so students can continue to come develop their skill set.
