Programs: The mission of Children’s Advocacy Center of Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union Counties (“CAC”) is to heal and give voice to abused children through assessment, treatment, education, and community partnerships. Since 1995, CAC has provided critical services for children and families who have been affected by sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, and exposure to violence. CAC receives referrals primarily from the Department of Social Services (“DSS”) and law enforcement. The CAC model pulls together a multidisciplinary child abuse response team, consisting of law enforcement, DSS, the Solicitor's Office, and other partners to reduce the number of interviews for children and ensure no child falls through the cracks. CAC provides a safe place for children to talk with a highly trained, licensed clinician about the details of the abuse in the forensic assessment setting, coordinates child abuse medical evaluations (off-site), and provides evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy at no cost to the family.
