I visit the middle each week and meet up with my mentee. One of the thing I love about giving my time to spend with my mentee is that i learnedSOO much about myself and about things I did not know. My mentee is so smart and just needs the proper person to guide her. Giving our time to someone is not a choice is a reward. People have time to spend hours in Facebook, arcade, clubs but the expericene it's not the same. When you get the feeling you made a differnece and change someone it's more rewarding. Talking to a student and asking about their goals the type of music they do, makes you a better person & helps you understand what is your purpose in life.
I love this organization, it gives so much to foster care children and teens and it changes lives. When children are in the criminal justice they think people do not care for them because lawyers, social workers get paid. Mentors do no get paid, that's what makes the child sooo happpy :)
you learn something new each day from people and from each other i love this organization
I adore Children Uniting Nations!! Last summer I volunteered to lead a jewelry workshop with the Academic Program and had a ball with the kids. One girl I hear kept up with the jewelry making at home - I love when the creativity spreads! I also have a mentee with the Community Based Program. We have made jewelry too but also spent time at the botanical gardens, at the park working on reading/writing, bowling, aquarium - she is such a blessing and I can't wait to spend more time together. It is so great building that bond - and I thank Children Uniting Nations for making that happen!!
Children Uniting Nations is a proactive non-profit organization created to bring attention to the plight of at-risk and foster youth. Our goal is to reach as many children in out-of-home care by offering role-model support, guidance, a sense of community and promoting the importance of an education. We match participants with highly trained mentors that are compassionate, steadfast and have an unconditional desire to give of themselves in order to make a positive difference in the lives of our most vulnerable children.
