Causes: Economic Development, Urban & Community Economic Development
Mission: The purpose of cica is to ensure the survival and long-term viability of great chebeague as a year-round community. We initially worked on providing affordable housing, and continue to do so. We have also worked to encourage energy conservation and to promote the revival of agriculture on the island.
Programs: Cica provides affordable year-round rental properties.
cica received a grant from maine agriculture in the classroom to build an outdoor pizza oven for the elementary school on the island. The oven is also used for community-wide events.
cica's fellow from the island institute continues to work on educating island children, through the school, as well as adults about local agriculture.
