I have been a proud volunteer for Charlie's Crusaders for almost 4 years now and am very grateful for the work that they do. Behind the scenes, no stone goes unturned to save and protect these precious pups. Everyone involved is a volunteer and are so dedicated. Rescue is hard, emotionally draining and stressful but they never give up on a dog once they decide to adopt them. The "heart" of this organization is amazing and I look forward to seeing what they will do in the future.
We had adopted a puppy from this rescue and weeks later the puppy showed aggression and bit my children in the face. When we brought the issue to the admin of Charlie's they advised training. We spent over a thousand dollars on a trainer with results that did not come soon enough and ended in another terrible aggressive attack towards another family member. After spamming the admin (Donna) with phone calls/ Text messages to remove the dog from the home they did not take us seriously until we had to threaten to contact our Vet to put the dog down.
I understand the aggressive nature of the dog was not the rescue's fault, there fault was not answering our plea for help when we most needed it. We wanted the best for the dog and it took a threat to put the dog down to have someone contact us.
I also see things on there facebook page shaming owners that had returned dogs. The rescue needs to take people more seriously and help them and the dog succeed. Stop blaming people and take responsibility.
Wonderful organization who goes above and beyond for their dogs. Conduct extensive reviews into families and take time to match dogs to home situation. Unfortunately, people lie on applications frequently and/or are completely unrealistic about whether they can manage the commitment of a pet so this is necessary and rarely done by other organizations.
