Programs: Youth development-overviewpositive youth development is a key component to charles settlement house programming. We provide youth in northwest rochester the opportunity to engage in various programs and activities that are appropriate for their age. The philosophical approach of our youth programs is based upon the "40 developmental assets". Increasing social skills, job readiness/pre-employment skills, school attendance, graduation rates and civic engagement are areas of focus. Our after school program relocated to our community center at 71 parkway, becoming a neighborhood-based program. We served 93 children in 1st through 6th grade. The program is offered free of charge to families. Activities include: literacy, homework help, physical activity & sports, s. T. E. M. , dance, photography, healthy cooking, newsletter, music and arts and crafts. Csh also provided similar enrichment activities at school #17 in the rochester city school district; we worked with 145 students in the expanded learning time program. We served teens through the reinvesting in youth (riy) and re-entry programs. Youth in the riy and re-entry programs have been identified through the criminal justice system. Riy youth have not been in detention facilities and our program's goal is to keep them from being placed in detention. Youth in re-entry were in detention. In both cases, our community asset navigators work with the youth and their families to identify appropriate activities and help the youth and their families navigate the opportunities available to them. We worked with 27 youth in riy and 4 in the new re-entry program. We also launched the epic teen club as a place for the youth in riy and re-entry, as well as other neighborhood teens, to meet for support, mentoring, skill-building, and social activities. 12 youth participated in this new program.
