Mission: Chariton valley resource conservation and development is a united states department of agriculture sponsored, non-profit organization serving lucas, wayne, appanoose and monroe counties in south central iowa. The rc&d provides assistance to local communities, counties and organizations to carry out local objectives, related to economic development, community facilities and natural resource conservation.

north shore trail project - this trail project is a segment of a much larger trail plan that will connect recreational facilities on rathbun lake to neighboring communities. This initial trail segment will connect honey creek resort state park to prairie ridge park and will provide access to a wide variety of recreational activities that are currently very limited and not always accessible by automobiles. These include wildlife and nature viewing, prairie and woodland exploration, pond fishing, lakeshore fishing and access to interpretive sites. Upon completion of this project, the trail will be owned by the u. S. Army corps of engineers.
