Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries
Mission: Working with others to help feed people in need. To collect donated and surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to those in need.
Programs: Channel one food bank: provides food and non-food product to approximately 187 programs provided by approximately 117 nonprofit 501(c)(3) agencies that feed people as part of their program services mission. During the year ended june 30, 2017, channel one food bank received in 9,382,522 gross pounds of food and non-food items and distributed 8,976,140 pounds to agencies in 13 counties in southern minnesota and la crosse county, wi. We also provided 92,467 pounds of food items to other affiliated food banks, for a total of 9,068,607 pounds of food distributed through the food bank. commodity supplemental food program: nutrition assistance program for seniors (naps) provides nutritionally balanced, supplemental federal government commodity food packages to income-eligible senior citizens on a monthly basis in the 13 county service area in minnesota. There were 15,529 packages distributed in the year ended june 30, 2017.
supplemental food shelf: provides a monthly distribution of food and non-food items, including government commodities to low-income olmsted county residents. Provided an approximately 5-day supply of food items to 6,808 registered households who participate in this monthly distribution. In total, there were 41,742 household visits during the last fiscal year ended june 30, 2017.
