Mission: To provide services that support people facing challenges to living and working in the community. __________________________ catholic charities bureau affiliates are organized to maintain, operate and conduct; directly or indirectly; as well as to assist and coordinate activities and social services in accordance with the charitable works and traditions of the roman catholic church. Works are carried out in accordance with catholic social teachings.
Programs: The residential services program of the challenge center is designed to provide each person with the level of support needed to enjoy safe and successful community living. A total of ten residences, with private rooms for all residents served, are located in ten different neighborhoods throughout the city of superior, wi. Each residence is designed to provide a level of care that meets the needs of the individuals in that home. Five of the homes are community based residential facilities (cbrf's) providing for intensive and/or continuous support needs. The program also oversees two adult family homes and three apartment homes. A total of 21,170 days of support were provided in 2017. Staff encourage and assist residents to greater community involvement providing support and transportation when needed for individuals to take part in a wide variety of community activities/events. In 2017, residents participated in 10,626 community activities / approximately 183 per resident. The residential services program also provides for independent living skills supports and supported home care services to individuals residing in their own homes or with family members. In 2017 these 1:1 support services were provided to 33 individuals with 5,148 hours of goal-specific services provided to individuals living in superior/douglas county.
adult and work services provides a wide variety of learning, work and recreational opportunities to people with varied capabilities. Adult day programs offer scheduling choices of activities both community-wide and facility based within three program areas. The seniors program schedules outings that generally appeal to older participants including visits to the library, local senior centers, restaurants, and area museums/points of interest. The life skills program adds volunteering options caring for a large local park and the community ymca. The schedule also includes regular recreational outings emphasizing exercise and exploration. The sensory program has an emphasis on helping individuals with severe to profound physical challenges to maintain their mobility and flexibility. It is very common for individuals to spend a portion of each week in different programs to take advantage of favorite activities going on in each area of focus. The recreational program offers evening and weekend opportunities for involvement in sports, theater and other community events. In 2017 fifty four individuals received 12,144. 5 hours of recreational and leisure time programming in the community. Seventeen individuals were served in the seniors program receiving a total of 17,342 hours of service. Thirty two individuals were enrolled in life skills receiving 25,981 hours of service.
enterprises were specifically created to support individuals with hands-on work opportunities at a pace and expectation level that meets the individual's current capabilities while also providing a safe environment in which to test community workplace readiness. These vocational services include job development/preparedness, job shadowing/coaching, task analysis, transportation, employment supports, career profile services and transition to long term employment. In 2017 fifteen individuals pursued community employment with fourteen area businesses. Within bay produce and marathon enterprises, 65 participants pursued their individual prevocational goals toward future community employment while earning $243,565. 75 in wages.
