The problem I noted with this agency is the distribution of food to many folks who do not appear to have a need. At one of their mobil sites I observed numerous individuals with brand new SUVs ($30K cars and up) loading sacks of food into their cars. They were well dressed and obviously there for the free food handout. When I contacted the CAFB, I was told that yes indeed many of their clients do have very nice vehicles and many are homeowners, but that is the "irony of folks in extreme poverty". Huh?? In addition the local news media is always trying to solicit donations on their behalf. I'm sure if the many donors saw how haphazardly the food is distributed, they would have less donors, not more. Don't get me wrong, it's a great concept, but they certainly need to reconfigure how they hand out the food. If it was regulated better, they would probably have more food on hand, rather than having the media announcing how they are running low on supplies.

This organization does great things for the needy and hungry in Central Texas. Their record is tarnished, however, by the excessive salary drawn by Mr. Davenport. I would urge the board and Mr. Davenport to set a more reasonable (say, five-figure) salary that befits the philosophy of a charitable organization. The present compensation is way out of line....
