Mission: Ckc seeks to promote the appreciation of central kansas, including its unique natural landscape, wildlife, history and culture, to encourage health and wellness by providing people of all ages a great place to walk, jog, bicycle and horseback ride safely away from traffic, to provide opportunity for economic growth in the communities along the trails, and to foster local control of resources and deal effectively with concern of local people.
Programs: The central kansas conservancy (ckc) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation and is trustee to 45. 6 miles of rail banked railroad. The conservancy was organized in 1997 with the vision to broaden and promote these rail-trails. As of right now we have completed 2 miles of trail (on the meadowlark trail) from mcpherson going north towards lindsborg in a finalized state. (this would include blading the rail bank level and spreading limestone screening for a trail surface. ) we have two additional miles in a rough stage with additional limestone screenings purchased and ready to be put down. Weather has prohibited this from being finalized. We have also surfaced and railed one bridge on the section. We have cleared of a mile from lindsborg going south toward mcpherson and are working on the next two miles to be cleared. These 2 miles should be completed with limestone screenings before the end of summer 2014. In galva on (the sunflower santa fe trail) we have a section completed with limestone screenings and another mile section ready for completion with limestone screenings. Again this will be completed as soon as the weather cooperates. Along with trail building we also maintain the completed sections of trails by weed spraying, mowing and other things like trash removal and trimming back trees when necessary. There is also weed spraying and mowing that needs to be done on miles not yet developed.
