Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts Education, Music, Performing Arts, Theater

Mission: Central Florida Vocal Arts is a non-profit music advocacy organization dedicated to providing the highest quality training to young artists, while also providing performance opportunities to currently emerging artists of all ages. We are creating a continuing life cycle for the vocal arts in Central Florida through a three step model. The first step, Education and Training, introduces young artists to the arts. Through our educational initiatives, we develop students’ talent, passion, and confidence. Next, our Mainstage Productions provide a transition period for students ages 8-18 and pre-professional adults to emerge on stage alongside local professional artists. Our life cycle culminates with Opera del Sol, offering innovative productions in unexpected places and challenging perceptions of who the operatic performer and audience members are and what defines the genre as a whole.

This past Fall, I was privileged to watch my daughter and two of my grandchildren perform in the CFVA version of "Hansel and Gretel". What a fun twist on an old classic! The entire production was a treat for the eyes and ears, with the zombies an unexpected, but fitting addition during the Halloween season. Thanks so much to CFVA and all the individuals (on and off-stage) who worked so hard on this event!

With the myriad activities presented through-out the year, CFVA not only provides opportunities for local professionals to showcase their talents, but also the means for fledgling artists and even novices to get a chance to be on stage (like my grandkids!). The community benefits from the chance to enjoy quality performances at a reasonable cost or even free! In addition, CFVA doesn't only serve "traditional" opera/concert goers, but provides varied types of performances, often in unique venues, that appeal to the larger community. Look through their calendar and you'll find something for just about anyone! As for myself, I'm looking forward to traveling again to Orlando this Spring for "Secret Garden"!

As one of the fastest growing arts non-profits in Central Florida, CFVA truly stands out among other similar organizations. What I believe makes CFVA so special is the diversity of community members it serves. With CFVA's professional opera, musical theater and pop up performances, they are able to reach a wide scope of audience members as well as provide employment opportunities for Orlando's professional voice, acting and dance performers. The educational arm of the organization impacts a wide range of Central Floridians as well- from students at Title 1 schools (through the Arts 1:1 program) to senior citizens living at multiple residential centers, students preparing for college auditions and professional artists looking to further hone their craft. Central Florida Vocal Arts truly makes the community stronger through arts education, performance and outreach.
I am honored to serve as the President of the Board of Directors for such an impactful organization.
