Mission: Since our founding in 1999, cfuf has remained at the front-line of addressing some of our city's most pressing issues, including poverty, unemployment, father-absence and family disintegration. We maintain an unwavering focus on addressing the key challenges of baltimore's urban families by working to connect fathers to their children, creating opportunities for economic and financial security through work, and providing access to other key interventions and supportive services. In furtherance of our direct service work, cfuf collaborates with policy and practice change-makers to advocate policies that effectively enhance and impact low-income families. Our mission is to strengthen urban communities by helping fathers and families achieve stability and economic success. Programs: In addition in our direct services, cfuf's practitioners' leadership institute (pli) helps to build the capacity of the family strengthening, healthy relationships, responsible fatherhood, black men and boys of color, and workforce development fields by delivering customized training, peer learning, and program development resources to grassroots practitioners and agencies across the country. Organizations served by pli are provided with invaluable opportunities to access information on best practices, tools and strategies for program success; connect with like-minded organizations and trailblazers in the field through a structured peer-learning community; and, build organizational strength through hands-on mentorship and coaching provided by a team of seasoned practitioners.
an outgrowth of cfuf's thirteen year-old men's services program, the broader goals of brfp are to increase fathers' emotional and financial support of their children and families by: 1. Improving acquisition and demonstration of parenting skills; 2. Increasing child support awareness and management; 3. Increasing healthy relationships and healthy communication; and, 4. Increasing job readiness and employability. Program services are delivered through a comprehensive three-month cohort model, advancing responsible fatherhood program model, which consists of intense case management, support service referrals, and educational workshops. Key components of the brfp include outreach and recruitment, service needs assessments and enrollment, and participation in a responsible fatherhood educational cohort.
cfuf's supportive services arm stabilizes current participants and program alumni by connecting them to critical resources that prepare them for entry into core programming and help sustain their long-term progress towards greater self-reliance and fulfillment. Services include: outreach, recruitment, assessment and triage; life coach assignment; internal and external referrals to on-site or co-located supportive services to help participants navigate the personal and professional barriers to family stability and economic success.
family services through a six-week, 12-session period, the couples advancing together (cat) program educates and provides clients with the essential tools needed for their success at home, in the workplace and society. With the help of program staff and workshop facilitators, participants develop a written family-focused career plan, learn what is needed to compete in the job market, and learn skills that are essential to healthy relationships, employment, financial literacy, and co-parenting, thereby aiding couples in achieving greater economic stability and building healthier relationships. The cat curriculum has two major goals: 1. Help romantically involved parents gain knowledge and skills to strengthen their relationships in order to achieve family stability; and, 2. Teach parents how to work together to develop their career and financial skills in order to achieve economic success. Cat program components include: development of family-focused self-sufficiency plans (fssp); group-based workshops; facilitation of connection to other cfuf programming and supportive services; and, life coaching facilitated by supportive services. Economic success cfuf's economic success track provides services that function as an anchoring to cfuf's fses integrated service delivery program model and as conduit for other center-based program offerings to strengthen urban communities by helping fathers and families achieve family stability and economic success. The portfolio equips participants with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to achieve success in the workplace. Services include: strive baltimore pre-employment trainings; job placements and re-placements; job retention and advancement assistance; career mapping support; job coaching; and, occupational skills trainings and education.
