I have had an incredible experience serving as a mentor at CSC. The community is welcoming, empowering, and supportive. It's mission and impact is incredibly powerful. I look forward to continuing my time here and recommend this to anyone interested in serving the community in this way!
I enjoyed my time at the Center for Supportive Communities where I served as a behavioral mentor. The experience was incredibly rewarding. The supervisors and colleagues were very helpful and supportive. Whenever I sought their guidance, they provided me with valuable advice and suggestions. And it was fulfilling to witness the progress and growth of the youth I worked with. This experience has been invaluable and has significantly benefitted me in my continued journey in this field.
Being a mentor with CSC has not only granted me access to experiences which will benefit my career aspirations, it also has provided an opportunity to serve my community in an impactful way. CSC’s staff and resources have made my experience as amazing as possible! They care not only about the program but also deeply for all of the volunteer mentors. From professional development to 1-on-1 support for cases, they are there for every step of your journey! I would 100% recommend anyone who is interested in serving communities to this program!
CSC staff and volunteers always seem so dedicated to their cause. They genuinely care about their clients and the communities the serve, and they know how to take action to resolve challenges that entire communities face on a daily basis. I am always impressed with this organization's preparedness, professionalism, and creativity through evidence-based practices.
Interning with CSC for 2 years as a mentor in their SupportEd program was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. It not only helped me grow personally and professionally, but I was able to see the positive outcomes in children and youths' lives. The organization's evidence-based practice is outstanding to ensure that no youth slip through the cracks. To provide services, they work with students, families, schools, and the community to provide meaningful behavior change. After two years, I am now their Volunteer Operations Manager. As I work with CSC's team, I learn every day just how dedicated they are to serving the youth in our community. We are extremely grateful for every volunteer and donor that dedicates their time to supporting CSC's mission!
As a mentor, this has been a great learning opportunity for me! While in college, this has been my first opportunity available where I could practice some of the skills I've learned in the classroom. The training was great and staff is super supportive. I'm excited to see the outcome of my work here and to see this organization grow!
I absolutely loved being a volunteer with the Center for Supportive Communities. I was able to support families in such a unique way - by helping connect them to concrete service needs, brainstorm & solve problems together, and be an advocate for the family in court. I got the opportunity to learn about cultures and lifestyles that are different from mine, which helped me grow and gain new skills. I am so glad I got this experience - you should too.
I worked as an intern for the Center for Supportive Communities and during my time there I was absolutely blown away by the difference they are making in the lives of children. The Center for Supportive Communities is operated by behavioral scientists that are amazing at what they do. I have no doubt in my mind that every single child that comes through this program benefits in some way. Children that are part of this program learn how to cope with negative feelings or situations and are motivated to attend school through positive methods. The Center for Supportive Communities is absolutely vital to our community.
The truancy program now being offered through the Center for Supportive Communities has been serving Douglas County for more than 40 years. This program is a leader in the implementation of evidence-based best practices in decreasing the negative effects of chronic absenteeism. This program has helped ensure the academic success of thousands of youth in our community. Further, the mentorship and relational components of the program ensures an opportunity to provide services for a multitude of issues that extend far beyond truancy (e.g., homelessness, poverty, drug use/domestic violence in the home). To say that this program helps improve student attendance would be an understatement. The program also fosters academic success, increased likelihood of graduation, improved teacher/student relationships, consistent mentorship/relationship development, and helps match families to other community-based services that may be necessary.
I worked with the Center for Supportive Communities on their fundraising strategy and was deeply impressed by the organization! They are doing fantastic work for the community helping to break down barriers and provide supports to keep youth in school so they can thrive.
I have been working with the leadership of this organization for the past 2 years on program and research development, capacity building with staff and volunteers, and collecting information about how to work more collaboratively with others to serve the needs of the youth in our communities. The staff and leadership are exceptional professionals. They are responsive to the needs of the youth and families they hope to serve, while also working to create a context of success with school districts and other community-based organizations. Expect to be impressed by the work done by this group. They are building upon over 20 years of successful programming, and partnering with others to develop new approaches to address youth success and achievement in communities.
The Center for Supportive Communities has helped to positively impact the lives of so many, changing the trajectory of youth that need their support most, as well as their families and the schools across Kansas City. CSC has clearly invested so much of their time and attention into continually improving their programs, measuring the results, building their brand, and pushing forward new initiatives to create an even bigger impact.
Center for Supportive Communities (CSC) truly is dedicated to bettering the lives of those they serve and their families. CSC's empirically based, inclusive, and informed approach allows them to individualize services and evaluate these services continuously to maximize the likelihood for positive outcomes--outcomes that all parties involved agree on by.
Beyond those they serve directly, CSC is a quality entity for training and mentorship for anyone interesting in behavior analysis, psychology, social work, juvenile justice, etc.
