At our annual thanksgiving sit-down dinner on 11/24/17 we fed about 150 people hot meals at the cease fire don't smoke the brothers & sisters community center. Our dinner guests included seniors, the homeless, at-risk youth, ex-prisoners, and anyone that wanted to be in a loving, caring, friendly, and supportive environment. We also took 30 hot plates of food to a local shelter. We delivered about 350 purchased and donated turkey baskets during the week of thanksgiving to needy families in the community as well. On august 26, 2017 we held our 10th annual six months moratorium to stop the killing cookout and amateur boxing match. We had approximately 5000 attendees throughout the day from various parts of the city. We also had unity health care's medical team present to provide health screenings (blood pressure, diabetes and hiv) to attendees. We set up a regulation size boxing ring in the park. We held amateur boxing matches between at-risk youth where each contender received a trophy - win or lose. We had moon bounce and face painting for children. We fed everyone that wanted to eat. We had at-risk youth serving plates of food to seniors at the event and keeping the park clean. Since we are a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, students were able to get community service credits. We gave out awards to deserving community leaders. We had prominent speakers promoting our agenda of non violence and peace. We had bands entertaining attendees with songs of peace and non violence. Every year we re-activate our 6 month moratorium to stop the killing with this event. Our goal is to be impactful in the city in reducing violent crimes and shootings. The name of our organization - cease fire don't smoke (shoot) the brothers explains our mission. We go to court with youth in legal trouble and we work with the half way houses and schools.
