Programs: The catholic foundation of michigan inspires philanthropy, invests and manages assets entrusted to us and distributes grants from them to nonprofit organizations. The catholic foundation of michigan serves as a resource to create catholic legacies as a special form of stewardship. As a community foundation for catholics, we assist families and individuals to pass along their catholic values for future generations. We make certain that the donors intentions are honored and steward the grants and distributions from the fundsin 2017, 19 new donor-advised and endowed funds were established to provide benefit to the community. At the close of the first year, 10 nonprofits benefited from donor directed grants totaling $75,500. Once endowments are established, these funds are invested in a manner consistent with catholic values and investing standards established by the united states conference of catholic bishops (usccb). They are invested in a diversified manner to preserve and grow the endowments. The catholic foundation handles the administrative work for endowment funds and provide grants upon donor requests to assist our local catholic community. In addition, the catholic foundation also supports the establishment of non-endowed donor-advised and designated funds. These facilitate giving and make an impact today, tomorrow and for future generations. One of the key advantages of establishing donor-advised funds is that the donor receives an immediate, single tax receipt from the foundation for the gift and then has several months or years to recommend grant distributions to charitable organizations as desired. The catholic foundation hosted an informational launch to educate the catholic community about the new opportunities to assist the nonprofits about which our supporters care about most.
