Programs: Foodbank and feeding the hungry- catholic charities serves the hungry through emergency food assistance in clark, champaign and logan counties. Last year, 120,539 people received emergency assistance from the catholic charities food bank, food pantries, mobiles and back pack programs. Through a new school back pack program 99,575 meals were distributed to school children in these counties. Second harvest food bank distributed 4,220,427 meals through 78 member agencies, mobiles and the food pantry. In the cincinnati area and five rural counties, 450,829 meals were provided through the hunger program "food for all".
mental health services - catholic charities provides a wide range of affordable, confidential counseling services. Counseling equips people with the skills to grow psychologically and spiritually. Counselors connect clients with life skills to use as need to cope and succeed. In 2017, the mental health services served 1,465 person through 10,499 individual, couple and family counseling sessions.
refugee resettlement - imagine arriving in cincinnati after living decades in a refugee camp with little freedom. Everything is foreign from the street signs to the electric lights that turn on with a flip of the switch. Running water is a convenience that astonishes many. Refugees come with little more than clothes on their backs and hearts full of hope for a better life for their families. Through your support, catholic charities resettled 254 refugees (families, elderly and children) last year. The refugees receive job and esl training in order to secure employment.
senior services - seniors served the vulnerable through programs designed for seniors last year. Many long-term volunteers report they gain a sense of accomplishment and a boost of confidence serving others. In particular, the senior corps programs tap the skills, talents, and experience of people age 55 and over to meet a wide range of community challenges. Catholic charities southwestern ohio sponsors this local program of the corporation for national and community service. The wide range of senior services and programs include:-foster grandparent program provided 87,444 hours of services-retired senior volunteer program (rsvp) provided service to four community organizations through the efforts of on average 81 volunteers each month. -senior companion program provided 67,262 hours of services-caregiver assistance network, which served 262 caregivers last year. Su casa hispanic center and legal immigration services- matthew includes the "stranger" in the final judgment on love (mt 25:31-46). Last year, su casa provided emergency assistance stabilization services, education, health promotions, legal translation and interpretation, advocacy, and mental health services to its clients. In addition, 1,298 sought su casa emergency assistance stabilization services and 56 children graduated from su casa's vacaciones utiles summer program. Family services - catholic charities serves at-risk families through a range of classes, workshops and programs to bring families closer together with positive results. Some parents are referred to catholic charities by the courts to regain custody of children or perhaps by a daycare center when a child is disrupting the class. Often parents simply want to be better parents. Over 1,800 parents and children participated in the family-focused programs last year:early childhood mental health consultation program served an average of 543 children monthly and 101 adults monthly to improve emotional and behavioral skills. Parenting education classes served 282 at-risk parents and children with instruction on basic parenting skills.
