I became a resident at Samaritan House, women's shelter in late May due to the loss of employment. I was thankful for a bed to sleep in until mid July, when staff members waited until I left for work and cut the locks from my foot locker and stealing $200 worth of personal belongings. When i returned to the shelter after work, I discovered another resident sleeping in the bed that was previously assigned to me and all of my things missing. I reported this to the staff on duty and was basically ignored for nearly an hour. At some point, a cart was delivered to me with 3 garbage bags and I was assigned another bed. I filed a complaint about the wrongful incident but as of today, have not gotten any response or anyone taking responsibility.
Catholic Charities housing program gave my family and many others the opportunity to obtain a better life!
My family and I lived in one of Catholic Charities' housing units for several years when we first immigrated to the U.S. The sisters who managed the property were kind and worked hard to keep the common grounds clean and orderly.
Catholic Charities' low cost housing allowed my mom and older siblings to save a little money, learn English, get job training and obtain better paid jobs. We eventually moved out and purchased a house of our own. Thank you Catholic Charities!
