Causes: Counseling, Family Counseling, Human Service Organizations, Human Services, Mental Health, Substance Abuse Dependency, Prevention & Treatment
Mission: Jesus commanded us to love our neighbor. At Catholic Charities, we carry out that command by providing help and creating hope for spiritually, emotionally, and financially poor individuals and families in our community. The mission of Catholic Charities of Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale Counties is the work of the Catholic Church, to share the love of Christ by performing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
Target demographics: At Catholic Charities, our goal is to make our counties healthier, more compassionate communities by empowering individuals with the capacity and the desire to improve their quality of life. Since 1958, we’ve led the battle against the issues that plague so many in our neighborhoods. We provide an array of human services, regardless of faith or ability to pay.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Counseling Services: Over 12,013 sessions of mental health and substance abuse counseling. Our new location in Hillsdale opened for service. School Counselor: Provided part-time counselor in 4 Catholic elementary schools. Foster Care: 59 children were served; 12 new foster homes were licensed; 10 children were reunited with their families. Adoption: 21 children were given “forever families” through adoption. Child Advocacy Centers: Completed 457 forensic interviews for children alleged to be abused. Roadmap to Graduation: 3 homeless students were provided mentor homes and went on to graduate successfully. Senior Transportation: Volunteer drivers helped 130 seniors to over 860 medical appointments; our drivers traveled 37,129 miles. Prison Based Services: Provided substance abuse counseling services in 8 prisons across Michigan.
