Programs: The adolescent residential and aftercare program (corkery and caritas house). This program assists boys (corkery house) and girls (caritas house) between the ages of 13-17. The program focuses on substance abuse treatment within four stages. Stage one begins with acclimating the teens by settling them into a routine, teaching them to comply with rules and structure, teaching the program philosophy, participating in group therapy and education programs, begin to assess and share problems, participate in treatment planning, and learning to share responsibilities with others in the residence house. Stage two introduces awareness of self/personal growth by teaching the teens to accept and understand their substance abuse problems, work on resolving issues, be more consistent on responsibilities in the facility, be a positive peer role model, improve behavior, continue to participate in all therapy and education programs, begin family counseling, attend aa meetings and writing or recording a proposal on moving to the next stage. Stage three focuses on preparation for aftercare by continuing to work on and resolve problems and issues, to deepen understanding of negative effects of substance abuse, explore and evaluate drug free activities, continue working in family counseling, take on leadership roles in the program, help younger residents acclimate, join an aa group, get an aa sponsor, plan for aftercare and prepare an aftercare plan. Stage four focuses on aftercare to transition by teaching the teens to accept sanctions when their contract is violated, coming to the facility to attend all thursday night groups, attending weekly aa meetings, maintaining regular contact with their sponsor, continuing to seek and develop healthy relationships, attending school daily and completing requirements, remain alcohol and drug free, practice communication skills and transition out of the residential treatment.
