Causes: Job Training, Vocational Counseling
Mission: To provide high quality faith integrated counseling and behavioral health services to clients and be a resource to the community that enhances mental and spiritual health.
Programs: Carenet is a non-profit organization which provides a full range of counseling services to the public. Formally known as pastoral counseling services, carenet is the only faith-integrated, nationally accredited counseling service in the triad. Carenet provided 41,405 hours of mental health counseling through 34 locations across the state of north carolina. 4,896 of those hours were provided by our cohort of six residents who finished their two year residency in june and december 2018. The residency program prepares students for state licensure and professional training as mental health practitioners. One feature of the carenet residency that distinguishes this program from most is the emphasis on the integration of psychotherapeutic models of care and theological/spiritual reflection. The residents see uninsured and underinsured populations in our state which allows carenet to extend mental health services in rural areas where such care is severely limited. In addition to the residency program, carenet has a popular intern program which assists masters level students in obtaining the supervised mental health experience needed for graduation. Carenet has also continued to expand its co-location program in 2017. This program puts mental health providers in primary care offices to handle the psychological piece of routine medical visits. Co-location has proven to be a viable option in reducing costly mental health visits to the emergency room and offering a continuum of care to patients who would not seek counseling on their own.
