Mission: To advocate for community health and for improvements in quality, cost and access to health care resources in the michigan counties of clinton, eaton, and ingham.
Programs: Healthy lifestyles - for the past 11 years, the healthy lifestyles committee (hlc) of the capital area health alliance has been developing and/or supporting programs to promote health and wellness in the tri-county area. The hlc includes representatives of organizations throughout the capital area who are dedicated to promoting healthy behaviors and well-being. Membership on the hlc is open to the public. The hlc reports its activities to the board of directors of the capital area health alliance.
health committees - the capital area health alliance coordinates six health related committees which disseminate information to the community on various health related issues - end of life care, healthcare workforce, healthy lifestyle, mental health partnership, nursing care, physicians retention and recruitment.
grant recipient - the alliance was awarded a health and wellness 4 x 4 grant offered by the michigan department of community health (mdch). The 4 x 4 tool focuses on knowing measuremnts and improving behaviors that impact our health. The alliance engaged community organizations and leaders to support the implementation of the 4 x 4 plan; created environments in multiple sectors to increase the availabilbity of health food and access to physical activity; and used 4 x 4 campaign messages to coordinate a multi-faceted community-wide campaignalerting the public to the chronic disease and obesity crisis.
