Mission: Can-do senior citizens was organized in order to promote wellness by providing senior citizens of the community with opportunities to consume nourishing meals on a regular basis, and to provide convenient transportation to medical appointments, shopping and other necessary trips around town or around the region for those individuals who are unable to or find it inconvenient to drive themselves or to arrange for someone else to drive them.
Programs: The organization owns and operates two vans which are used to provide transportation around town to those individuals who are not able to drive or who prefer not to drive under less-than-ideal driving conditions (usually when streets are covered with ice or snow or are wet, or when the temperature is extremely cold or the wind is strong or gusty). Individuals who use the bus pay a minimal fee - the suggested rate is $1. 00 per round-trip. The organization also sends the vans on regular trips on a weekly, monthly or as-needed basis to other communities in the region such as rugby, devils lake, grand forks or fargo for a variety of functions and activities, to provide rides for medical appointments, flights from or to regional airports, and a variety of other reasons. The fees for these trips vary according to the length of the trip, and are set by the organization at an amount deemed to cover the average cost of running each trip, as approved by the organization's transportation project director. From time-to-time, other organizations will also contract the services of the bus at a negotiated rate. There were a total of 8,752 rides provided during 2014.
