Mission: Camp fire usa midlands council develops youth and their families through out of school time and family strengthening programs in communities where they live.
Programs: Youth development - children: out of school time programs are designed to reach elementary age children who otherwise would be unsupervised. Children receive homework help, healthy snacks, physical activity, and participate in community service and leadership development. Nutrition has become our number one priority so that in addition to healthy snacks, two kids cafe's provide a nutritious evening meal, and a weekend backpack program provides food for children who have little or no food on the weekend.
youth development - adolescents: out of school time programs for inner city junior high and high school youth provide the necessary support for these young people to transition into high school and graduate while exploring potential career and educational opportunities. The programs also teach independent living skills.
youth development - homeless: youth in three area shelters participate in out of school time programs to learn coping skills, develop self worth and a sense of belonging while living in unsettled environments. The council provides a sense of continuity for these children.
safety programs for children: the adventures of natalie the net nanny teaches children in an interactive presentation about internet safety. Also included in the presentation is how to handle and report cyber-bullying and sexual solicitations. The bubbylonian encounter is a theater presentation about how to report, resist, and recognize child sexual abuse. It is presented in an interactive format that is both entertaining and non-threatening.
