Mission: To encourage local agriculture and environmental awareness through hands-on education in natural and farm ecosystems
Programs: Local food access, community supported agriculture, and awareness programs - works to increase the volume of locally grown food and increase access to fresh locally grown food to low income people through food production, distribution and outreach. Serves approximately 1,250 people annually.
calypso farm-based field trips - providing hands-on environmental and farm focused field trips for k to 12th grade, public, private and home school programs. Ecological gardening workships - provides hands-on workshops to home gardeners and small scale farmers - available to the public. Serving 2,000 participants.
schoolyard garden initiative - promoting the development of educational school gardens across fairbanks which function as educational gardens for the schools during the school year and food production gardens during the summer (eating program involving over 30 youth gardeners during the summer months). The program serves over 1200 students at 3 schools.
farmer training program - provides participants with all of the information and experience needed to start their own farm. The program includes hands- on experience in farming while also offering exposure to and training in farm budgeting, farm planning, an array of ecological agriculture topics, environmental education and more. This program served 6 participants.
