Mission: Crla provides no-cost, legal services that improve the quality of life for low-income individuals and their rural communities. Crla reached over 49,000 individuals in 2016 through a combination of advocacy and outreach strategies that: 1) increase access to high-quality, no cost legal services; 2) ensure the equitable and fair distribution of resources in rural communities; and 3) protect the rights of low-income individuals to seek justice under the law.
Programs: Housing & community development involves: unincorporated community infrastructure improvements; tenants' rights; sub-standard housing; lockouts & utility shut-offs; housing discrimination; farm worker housing; rent deposit refunds; and limited eviction defense. In 2016, crla closed 3,376 housing & community development cases that impacted 7,355 people. Program revenue from collection of attorney fees and cost recoveries.
employment & labor involves: minimum wage and overtime claims; working conditions; retaliation; sexual harassment; employees' rights; unemployment hearings; and workers' compensation cases. health & human well-being involves: public benefits; sexual assault & domestic violence victim assistance; health insurance access; and pesticide exposure prevention. In 2016, crla closed 1,295 health & human well-being cases that impacted 7,355 people.
equal access & civil rights involves: protection of rights for minorities, persons with diabilities, lgbt populations, and other constitutionally protected groups. In 2016, crla closed 491 equal access and civil rights cases that impacted 1,580 people.
