Mission: The mission of the buffalo urban league is to empower african americans and other minorities and disadvantaged individuals, in securing economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights.
Programs: Education and workforce development - in conjunction with labor departments, area business and employment agencies, and the buffalo public school system, the league provides various services such as job training, employement opportunities, support services, literacy and career information to youth and adults in vocational training.
housing and community development - the league provides foreclosure intervention and prevention counseling; training for first-time homebuyers; counseling assistance to individuals/families seeking to rent; and financial capacity services including: budgetting, credit, credit repair, fair lending counseling. In addition,the program provides tchnical assistance and low interest loans to minority and/or women owned small businesses.
family preservation and support services - the league provides services to strenghen, preserve and support children and families. These services include: prevention of children being abused and/or neglected so that children reamin safely in their parent's home; recruitment and certification of individuals/families to foster and/or adopt children; wrap around support services for families; operation of a senior service center and emergency food pantry; and community health worker services to facilitate health and wellness.
