I used to be a student right after I began losing my sight. I was lost and honestly was ready to throw my arms in the air in defeat. Thankfully, the staff was so very kind and taught me how to still live my life despite being losing my vision. I found out that I could still work on my garden and listen to all my favorite novels. Braille institute is a great organization that deserves all the recognition it can get.

Mission: Founded in 1919, Braille Institute''s mission is to eliminate barriers to a fulfilling life caused by blindness and servere sight loss.
Programs: In addition to operating a nationally recognized library serving the blind, our programs and services include a braille publishing house, child development services, youth independence-building services, comprehensive low vision and adult rehabilitation services, community outreach, and an ongoing effort to promote braille literacy throughout the United States. Assistance is available through the Sight Center in Los Angeles; regional centers in Anaheim, Rancho Mirage, San Diego and Santa Barbara; and through nearly 400 Community Outreach locations throughout Southern California. From July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008, Braille Institute assisted more than 75,000 people of all ages.
