Causes: Boys & Girls Clubs, Children & Youth
Mission: The mission of the boys & girls clubs of skagit county is to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Our core belief is that each of our clubs provides our members a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, life-enhancing programs, character development experiences, and hope and opportunity.
Programs: Boys & girls clubs of skagit county served more than 1,600 youth through direct services in 2017 in locations in anacortes, burlington, la conner, mount vernon, and sedro-woolley. Thousands more received connection, referral and basic services including meals during out-of-school hours, to impact over 5,000 kids and teens in skagit county. Many club members and other affiliated youth are defined as at-risk, and a significant majority qualify for free/reduced school meals programs. Clubs use the talents of professionally trained staff, and highly engaged volunteers, to facilitate curriculum-based programs and high-yield learning activities that are age appropriate, relevant, and intentional in better the opportunity a child has at a great future. Through this process, clubs work to elicit three priority outcomes in club members: academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character & citizenship. All programs and services are provided in a safe, fun, and positive environment where kids and teens ages 6-18 can grow and have a voice in their successful development. A recent nationwide survey of club alumni, conducted by the harris group, found that 67% of former club members agree with the statement that the club saved their life, a powerful testament to the positive influence club participation can have on the life of a young person.
