Learning for Life: A classroom based character education program started in 1991 and developed and updated by leading educators. The elementary program features 60 age appropriate and grade specific lesson plans to enhance and support the core curriculum. Teaching techniques such as role playing, small group discussions, reflective and moral dilemma exercises, and hands-on activities are used for optimal effectiveness and memory retention. In middle and high school programs, community role models share their career expertise and interactive workshops help youth develop and assess the personal skills and values needed to make future career decisions. Urban Emphasis: Traditional Scouting programs brought to the youth of Chattanooga's housing community residents and low income neighborhoods. Youth participate in camps, activities and civis service projects. National Boy Scouts of America Drug and crime prevention programs and child abuse prevention exercises are stressed with these high "at-risk" youth.
