Results: At the conclusion of the 2011-2012 school year, over 600 BPS students had participated in our after-school programs, and we had trained over 300 BPS teachers to incorporate debate techniques into their classroom structure.
Target demographics: High school and middle school students in the Boston Public Schools
Direct beneficiaries per year: 600
Geographic areas served: Greater Boston area
Programs: The BDL offers both in-school and after-school programming. The After-School Debate League is the home of BPS' competitive debate teams, training students to compete against their peers at monthly tournaments. Our in-school programming features Evidence-Based Argumentation, a professional development program that trains teachers to use debate techniques as an engaging alternative to traditional classroom activities.
