Causes: Cancer, Human Services, Transportation Assistance
Mission: “To empower patients, caregivers, and medical professionals through a one-stop cancer resource from diagnosis through treatment, by way of multi-organizational collaboration.”
Results: Our web traffic is steadily increasing each month, with over 2,000 visitors to date. We have provided transportation to numerous patients and families throughout Greater Boston. Out-of-state family members have found support groups for loved ones in Massachusetts through Boston Cancer Support. May 25, 2016 will mark our second Cancer Collaborative event. Attendance will have doubled.
Target demographics: Cancer patients, caregivers, families, and health care providers
Direct beneficiaries per year: Patients, families, and health care providers, find and connect to much needed resources. We are now helping to connect cancer support organizations to each other to help strengthen communities and better serve patients and families.
Geographic areas served: Boston, Metro West, North, South, and Western Massachusetts
Programs: The web presence provides resources for cancer patients and their families at the state, region and town level, such as financial aid opportunities for prescription drugs, prosthetics, and respite care for caregivers. In addition, there are resources for palliative care, clinical trial information, free or subsidized lodging locations during treatment, support groups to fit various needs, and more. Boston Cancer Support also runs two Collective Impact Programs. The CancerCollaborative™, brings together a wide variety of cancer support organizations and healthcare professionals within the same community to take part in face to face seminars to discuss how they can work together to sustain collaboration. The Treatment Transport program provides patients rides to their medical appointments.
