Mission: Book-It annually stages 4 - 5 world premiere theatrical adaptations of great literature on its main stage. Bringing books to life, these productions use simple and sensitive interpretations of the author's original text in order to inspire audiences to read and excite the imagination. Over 25,000 people attend the mainstage season; over 55,000 people around Washington State experience Book-It All Over education and performance programs.
Target demographics: Book-It's main stage productions are usually appropriate for ages 12 and above; Book-It All Over programs are geared toward elementary, middle and high school ages--each production has an age-range and Book-It staff is happy to recommend the best production on our touring roster for your group.
Geographic areas served: Greater Puget Sound Region with some work in all areas of Washington State
Programs: Book-it transformed a total of 8 world premier adaptations and 140 performances from great literature into great theatre for the main stage. Bringing books to life, these productions use simple and sensitive interpretations of the original text to inspire its audiences to read and excite their imaginations. Over 18,000 people attended the main stage season performances.
book-it's arts & education program showcased 5 touring plays adapted from youth literature that were performed at nearly 200 schools, libraries, and community centers in western washington. They held 117 workshops and 8 in-school residencies, teaching students to adapt written text for the stage. Each workshop culminated in a final student performance. Over 61,000 people were reached by the book-it education programs.
