Mission:
- Founded in 2002 in Richmond, VA, Boaz & Ruth’s mission is to rebuild lives and communities through relationships, jobs and economic revitalization. Since poverty, homelessness and unemployment are most severe in the lives of released prisoners and the depressed communities to which they return, our three major strategies are:
- A transitional jobs and training program to rebuild the lives of formerly incarcerated men and women through classes, counseling and on-the-job training
- Community revitalization initiatives that purchase and restore run-down properties, incubate and operate businesses, and provide jobs to empower the physically blighted commercial corridor of Highland Park in Richmond, VA
- Cross-cultural events and activities that bridge racial, economic, and geographic barriers to connect Highland Park and our program participants to the wider Richmond community.
B&R serves released prisoners and the community of Highland Park in the North District of Richmond, one of the top 100 metropolitan areas identified by the National Corrections Reporting Program as receiving the most returning non-violent prisoners. All Boaz & Ruth goals and activities work together to address all three strategies which, intertwined, create a strong rope of rescue for struggling individuals and their troubled community.
