Mission: Blueribbon's mission is to conserve public lands and keep trails open for recreation for all modes of travel. Brc is a non-profit advocacy organization which works with local and national governing bodies, the interior department, forest service and bureau of land management to influence public lands' recreational planning. In addition, we serve the public through our website, magazine, and public meetings - educating them on public land-use issues. We provide legal intercession when legal remedies are needed to keep public lands open. We are a watchdog group which scrutinizes agency planning activities, offering them options which will keep public lands open for recreation. We work with other conservation groups to protect the lands and waters that belong to the american people and collaboratively work with different user groups to create a sustainable environmental policy that protects public lands for recreation.
Programs: Brc monitors issues and initiatives affecting public lands' recreational access, recreation management, and natural resource conservation and utilizes various communications methods to educate members and the public. Brc distributes sharetrails magazine and provides a robust website of national information to keep enthusiasts abreast of land-use issues and agency planning. Our website offers members action alerts on issues specific to their area or the nation. It provides historical land-use information, links to elected officials, useful advocacy tools, and links to other enthusiast organizations.
legal - brc developed and actively maintains a legal action program to monitor, evaluate and take appropriate action on issues affecting recreation on public lands and waters. These activities advance, and are limited by, the exempt purposes of the coalition. Brc adds a legal element to our advocacy efforts. We begin with an initial review of a specific area's land-use problem which may serve as a springboard to enter administrative appeals or litigation.
advocacy. Brc public lands department monitors the interior department, us forest service, and bureau of land management's recretaional access planning and facilitates member and enthusiast involvement in planning efforts. We coordinate our advocacy planning with other local, state, or national associations to maximize impact on the land-use planning process. We mediate differences between users of various modes of recreation and help recreationists work together toward meaningful "on the ground" solutions. Where there are gaps in local enthusiast involvement and, where applicable, brc actively and directly engages in those planning processes on behalf of its members. Within the legal confines of the irs 501(c)(3) regulations, brc lobbies on behalf of its members on legislative initiatives affecting recreational funding, recreational access, and other similar issues having an impact on access to public lands and waters.
