Mission: To promote awareness of bleeding disorders to the general public provide education and support to persons affected and their familes and to support the ongoing research of the national hemophilia foundation
Programs: Family educational camp: this three day weekend event is available to individuals and families free of charge with direct and immediate family members who either have a bleeding disorder, are carriers of a bleeding disorder or have an immediate family member affected. It is located in the low country to provide educational and supportive services to our community who reside in the low country and to provide upstate and mid-state participants a coastal experience. Education and family connections with community members is an optimum outcome of this weekend event. Over 210 participants attended this years event. We provided an educational and networking component specifically designed for families with children ages 0-6, 7-12, and our teens 13-18. We also provided an all day workshop for growth development for our adults. Exhibiting of products and services is available to promote education on new and current treatment therapies. The event provided seminars with national educators on varies bleeding disorders and addressing their needs, insurance education, school care and other related educational and supported needs.
hsc annual state meeting and educational conference day: each year we provide our members an annual state-wide meeting which stated in our by-laws. We report on the years financials and accomplishments. Board of directors are recognized and awards to our community members are provided. In addition, the hello conference, helping embrace life learning opportunities provides presentations and educational programs to support all areas of living well with bleeding disorders so those affected can reach their highest potentials without boundaries. This is a two day event open to all members of the bleeding disorders community in south carolina, healthcare providers and guests per registration. The attendance was upwards towards 200 total participants in attendance. We include a friday evening dinner opening event with hscs mission moments, awards, and a key note presentation. Educational presentations and breakouts are available on saturday. Childcare is available to include programs for children, and youth and teen education. The event concludes after dinner on saturday. On saturday during the morning break, lunch break and afternoon, there is exhibiting opportunities for participants to interface one-to-one with participating home care and manufacturing companies and their representatives to explore new treatment therapies. This event is free of charge to all participants.
hsc advocacy/legislative days in columbia:this event had an attendance this year of close to 100 individuals which include hemophilia of south carolina members affected by bleeding disorders, health care providers who assist our community members with services and treatment, local and national organization with interest in assuring access to quality care and treatment, the states department of environmental control children with special health care needs and industry partners. The chapter provides assistance to community members in regards to advocacy awareness and training, education on health care access initiatives the chapter is working on and addresses any concerns, while educating our elected officials on bleeding disorders. We provide awareness support and materials to government entities to spread an understanding of the challenges faced by people with bleeding disorders.
