Mission: The purpose of blaine county seniors council, inc. (the senior connection) is to enrich the lives of seniors: physically, mentally, socially and emotionally - so they can enjoy active and independent lifestyles.
Programs: Family care services (in-home care and adult day care and respite program called connection club): to enable adults to remain in their homes and to age in place independently and with dignity, the senior connection offers in-home care services that support activities for daily living such as providing personal hygiene and bathing, dressing, meal preparation, mobility, light housekeeping and errands. Caregivers are cnas and other employees who have passed a complete background check and random drug testing. The senior connection also offers an adult day care and respite program for individuals living with alzheimer's or another form of dementia or other cognitive impairment. This carefully designed program is offered four days per week and includes activities such as brain stimulation and socialization activities, daily lunch, activities, music and pet therapy, gentile exercise and local field trips. While providing enrichment in the individual's daily life, the primary caregivers and family members are able to receive supportive help and are given relief from their care giving routine.
nutrition services (congregate meals and home-delivered meals): to ensure no senior goes hungry and to increase the health, functionality and qualtiy of life for seniors living in blaine county, the senior connection offers a nutritious and healthy lunch time meal each day at the center. While the focus is serving those 60 years of age and older, anyone is welcome to attend our congregate meal. 1/3 of the receommended dietary allowances (rdas) are met/exceeded to ensure the quantities of nutrients in the diet is required to maintain good health in people. Meals are also home delivered (meals on wheels) to those individuals who are homebound or do not have the means or ability to access and prepare one's own food to a standard supporting good health. The meals on wheels program also has the goal of a safety and friendly visit. Eating well promotes health as does socialization. The senior connection serves over 25,000 meals annually.
transportation: the senior connection offers an array of transportation services so seniors can enjoy increased access, mobility and independence. The senior connection has a bus service that provides door-to-door service so seniors can enjoy lunch at the center, visit with friends and participate in activities. The senior connection also provides special transport services to enable individuals to access health care and attend other necessary and desired appointments. This program also provides transportation for individuals to participate in field trips and excursions to help them stay engaged and active in the community.
