Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Environment, Water, Water Resources, Wetlands Conservation & Management
Mission: Stewardship of the blackstone river watershed including: water quality, river public access, recreation, safety and river cleanups. Watershed includes nine communities with tributaries to the blackstone river.
Programs: Construction of a classroom addition to the watershed council's riverside facility. By utilizing this addition as a meeting space, classroom, and office for the council, this climate-controlled addition will support the council's goal of public education, river advocacy and stewardship, community involvement, and fostering an appreciation of the river in today's youth. Construction of this addition is expected to be completed by june 2018.
bacteria testing and water quality analysis performed along the blackstone river, as part of a coordinated, multi-organization effort to continuously evaluate the health of the river, with a goal of achieving a fishable and swimmable blackstone river.
the watershed council rented a public use portable toilet at its riverside facility. This toilet provided a sanitary service for local residents who utilized the river and nearby bikepath for recreation. By providing this public service, it also minimized the potential for human waste to enter the river ecosystem.
