Causes: Environment, Land Resources Conservation
Mission: To promote and maintain public open spaces in the areas in proximity to the seeking river, specifically including blackstone park and the open space which divides blackstone boulevard; and to carry on any other activity that may be lawfully carried on by a corporation formed under the rhode island nonprofit corporation act as may be in effect from time to time.

Geographic areas served: Blackstone Park Conservation District and Blackstone Boulevard Park
Programs: Blackstone boulevard park: maintenance of existing trees, maintenance of four gardens along the boulevard, planting of new trees. Assessed the footpath, finding 4 distinct zones differing in composition and condition. Started planning for path upgrades. The park is a public area that is reguarly visited by inhabitants of its immediate area (eastside of providence, population around 30,000) and beyond.
blackstone park conservation district: stabilized the slope next to the stairs above york pond, planted shrubs, and watered young plants along center section trails. Lined path edges and added wood chips to revitalize trails and help control stormwater. Fixed fences, spread wood chips, remove invasive plants, and more. Tackled trash in the park and along the river by joining the citywide earth day cleanup and, through save the bay, the international coastal cleanup. Removed invasive and noxious plants from the north section and the forest health works project along angell street. Professionals were hired for heavy brush control. The park is a public area that is reguarly visited by inhabitants of its immediate area (eastside of providence, population around 30,000) and beyond.
held miscellaneous entertainment and educational events. This includes four free summer concerts at the blackstone boulevard trolley shelter, enjoyed by hundreds of local residents. Free events at the blackstone park conservation district included boat rides on the seekonk river, concerts, an elizabethan drama, new children's nature programs, an east coast river relay, a not-so-spooky halloween walk, along with winter duck watching. Riverwood, a newly installed space for children, added additional magic to our family events and programming.
