Causes: Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Children & Youth
Mission: To organize, under professional direction, a body of mature and responsible men and women to interest themselves individually and collectively in the welfare of children, regardless of race, creed, ethnic orgin, sexual orientation or economic circumstances; to provide, on a volunteer basis, primarily from one to one relationships to boys and girls for the following purposes: 1. To aid children primarily from single parent families in their healthy and functional growth to adulthood 2. To assist these children in their social, emotional and character development 3. To provide ongoing supportive services 4. To provide selected special services to the families of these children 5. To join with other organizations providing human services to such children and their families in creating a climate of maximal human growth and development 6. To strengthen the self-image and enhance character development through common research, education and action.
Programs: Providing youth mentoring services, in the eight county area of northern michigan. Provide opportunities for over 335 youth and volunteern adults to connect in ways to improve self confidence, attitudes and academics. Volunteer mentors contributed over 20,000 hours of time serving as big brothers and big sisters. Non of this contributed service is recognized or included in program costs.
