Causes: Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Children & Youth
Mission: Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring professionally supported 1 to 1 relationships that change their lives for the better. We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships, avoidance of risky behaviors and educational success.
Programs: Bbbs - mercer provided mentors to 519 vulnerable youths in 2017. The three basic types of programs are: community based - involves volunteers (bigs) who provide opportunities for the youths (littles) to enjoy the companionship of a caring adult outside of the home and school in various cultural, educational and receational types of activities; school based - involves volunteers who provide littles with one on one time and attention in their school settings, typically for at least one hour per week during the academic year; workplace mentoring - involves volunteers who provide one on one mentoring at the workplace twice monthly where littles learn about the business, careers, and educational requirements. Stem educational activities are also part of the curiculum.
