Mission: The mission of the una-usa is to inform the american public of the principles and activities of the united nations, to engage the public to support these principles, and to encourage the united states to take an active leadership role in the united nations. Una-tampa bay pursues the mission of the una-usa in a regional scope by interacting with tampa bay communities through education, empowerment, and advocacy.
Programs: Model united nations is una-tampa bay's signature education program, bringing hundreds of middle and high schools students together for a mock-united nations conference. Students are set into teams and assigned a country. The program allows students to learn about other cultures, develop an interest in international events and relations, better understand the nuances of foreign policy and decision-making, while honing their debate and research skills.
picture my life: a refugee story is a project that offers insight into the lives and experiences of 10-15 refugee youth living in tampa bay while enriching their lives through a photographic mentoring program. The children receive high-quality cameras to keep and use them to learn the basics of photographic arts. The resulting photos are displayed in an exhibition open to the public.
