After staying at Summer Rays for a short period in 2013 I am baffled that this horrible place is still operating. The emotional abuse and living conditions was deplorable. Chuck had huge issues and treated the place like a cult. He belittled and shamed individuals on a daily basis until they either conform to his ways or they gave up and disappear. There needs to be an investigation on this man and how he preys on the weak. I have nothing but horrible memories of this individual and the false representation he presents to the community.
Okay so who thinks having a job is more important than going to a meeting every Tuesday instead of Saturday? i dont know why and if u say you can't make it because your job will fire you he will say u disrespected him you have to get out of one of his crappy houses in less than a month before Christmas and ruin there Christmas instead of just changing the day of this stupid get mad bs . but I know why its cause he is in it for the money and him self I went to a couple of his meetings and after he always would talk to someone and treat them like they are trash and call them a fat pig and tell them to gtfo of his face because he was told that the guy was a negative person ...I don't get it if u do explain this to me please
This place is a total joke. Do not believe what Chuck says about going places outings etc. He's only in it for the money!!!! Do not get roped into this joke of a program!!!!
I am a current resident of summer rays and I have been here for over a year. Being from southern ohio I came to columbus for rehab and heard about summer rays, and decided the best thing I could do would be to stay away from where I was. I got out of treatment and came here and have been here since. This program saved my life I do and have things I could have never dreamed of. I am very involved in the community, from volleyball to attending all the wild and fun trips we take, i try to get to know everyone so they don't feel alone being new, it can be overwhelming at first being around 100 residents.
And as for chuck, he is one of the greatest people I have ever met in my life, he would do anything for anyone. I have seen him go so far above and beyond for people, I can guarantee there is NO other program director that would do the things he does. He may be a little rough around the edges but I have never seen anyone so dedicated to saving lives, all he wants if for people to take soberity seriously.
As for the houses, I have NEVER(in the year I have been here) heard of anyone having bugs. There are some beautiful houses in the program, and there are houses that chuck is making beautiful. But I would never say anything bad about the houses, there is no drug or alcohol use in the houses, there is power, water and gas in every house, Anyone serious about their soberity would be thankful for all of that. Anything that breaks or needs repaired is fixed in a timely manner and fixed properly.
With all that being said I would highly suggest this place to anyone who really wants a new way of life without drugs and alcohol. There is no place like summer rays.
As a graduate from West Central, and a second time resident of summer rays, it's really a shame if west central doesn't recommend this program. What a loss for those addicts and there family! I came to this program the first time and wasn't serious about my sobriety and was called on all my bullshit, but Chuck and summer rays gave me a second chance, helped me achieve over a year of sobriety custody of my son and beautiful home in a clean BUG FREE house of my choice! Anyone writting negative feedback about summer rays isn't ready for this program to change there life and there heart.
Whoever wrote these negative reviews are probably ex-residents(x-rays) that have issues with chronic relapse and wants to blame everyone else for their non-compliance to simple program rules. This place has helped save many of people who WANT to lead a sober life. Chuck has to deal with 100 addicts a day, sometimes it takes a little toughness to get through to certain people. This program is not for fake individuals. If you like to have fun and meet great people then summer rays is for you.... And for those who think different...... BLOW US!!!
Chuck has addiction issues of his own with the monsters and what ever else. As a parent I've witnessed his mood swings. On the other hand having a roof over your heads and being held accountable is better then no where to go or living in your car or on the streets. if you cleaned yourself up used your brain focus on a goal you would be able to move out and stand on your own two feet. The brain is powerful. Wil it to break these addictions and fight the devil. You can do anything you put your mind to.
Chuck Kirk goes above and beyond to help recovering addicts in their time of need. Sometimes he has a short temper that I've experienced personally, but if you conduct yourself like a responsible adult you'll never have an issue with him. If you relapse into drugs and alcohol, he'll throw you out. I see how their are negative reviews because Chuck is definitely a polarizing guy. You love him or hate him. There's no in between. He's extremely passionate about helping addicts recover. The heroin epidemic literally breaks his heart. He puts his heart and soul into Summer Rays to make it the best it possibly can be to help recovering addicts and alcoholics transition. Chuck Kirk goes above and beyond - help w/ jobs, transportation, food, etc. It's a great community with a central Cafe as a meeting hub. This Cafe - 'Rev Cafe' (open to the public) is great - great food, modern, nice, clean. And Summer Rays residents have a sober/clean place to hang out. You don't find all the things that Summer Rays offers anywhere else. Keep getting it done, Mr. Kirk! You're saving lives!
Chuck K, the guy who runs this sober house program, is a hateful person with a god complex. He claims to "help" people. But that is far from the case. He treats every person with extreme disrespect and foul language. And threatens to kick people out if they don't do or act exactly how he wants. And don't ever think about trying to move out, he will go out of his way to make sure you have nowhere to go so you have to stay.He thinks he is the kind or Reynoldsburg and has the biggest ego because of that. Not to mention he is pounding energy drinks and protein shakes all day. His personality switches very fast from happy, to I'm going to make your life miserable. I'm not even going to talk about the houses, if you want to go look at the black mold and bed bugs, go ahead. Please send your loved ones somewhere else. This is the farthest thing from a healthy environment. He just wants your money. He makes $25,000 a month from sick people that need real help.
This "sober house" should not be in business and the owner is one of the most vile people you will meet. The houses are dumps and are great safety hazards. The owner, Chuck, degrades and demeans the residents, uses foul language, intimidation all while guzzling down cases of Red Bull. Keep your children away from this place. More harm than good will come from this place. Just ask the rehab centers what the reputation is from this place.
