We are a small organization in the world of companion animal rescue. We pull very old dogs from shelters and give them a permanent home in our small – less than ten resident dogs – sanctuaries. On average we rescue thirty to forty dogs a year. But the expense of operating rescue homes for that many dogs is huge! Our biggest expenses are food and medical care. We are deeply indebted and grateful to Be Like Henry for helping us manage expenses by supplying us with dogfood every month for a number of years. Be Like Henry not only shoulders a large part of our burden by supplying us with food, but also sends lovely cards, notes, yummy treats and gifts throughout the year, to tell us how awesome they think we are, thus keeping the humans who care for the dogs healthy in body and soul.
Be Like Henry did an awesome thing for us a few years ago: we are located in a remote rural mountainous area and have limited opportunities to fundraise. Our best fundraiser is selling gently used dog coats and sweaters in two county-wide festivals every year. Be Like Henry had received a donation of dog sweaters and coats from a large retail organization and they sent them to us for our fundraisers!
Be Like Henry is an awesome organization, they work very hard to meet their mission. And that helps Little Big Dog Rescue meet our mission! -- Dot Terry, Dir.
I am the Executive Director of Rescued Rollers, a nonprofit special-needs dog rescue. We take in paralyzed/wheelchair dogs, seizures, diabetics, blind/deaf, and more.
We've been working with Be Like Henry for several years. They have supplied us with orthopedic dog beds, medical reference materials, and monthly dog food shipments. These are typically items that we need, but could not afford to purchase ourselves. The monthly food shipments also allow us to put more money towards the medical care of our special-needs pups, which is our biggest yearly expense.
I can not say enough about how Be Like Henry has helped us to improve the level of care that we can give our dogs. The ripple-effect they have when they help shelters and rescues is HUGE! Their work makes a major difference for the work of other nonprofits. We support them whenever we can, and I hope that you will, too.

I’ve had the great pleasure of volunteering with BLH and boy do they deliver! Started with submitting a ER team N-95 masks at the height of the pandemic and most recently reaching out to suggest a donation of food to a food pantry in a low income area. BLH finds a need and goes about fulfilling that need. I’m most proud of their work to make it easier for victims of DV have a safe shelter for their pets. Awesome team of folks doing great things!
Be Like Henry has been one of my favorite organizations for several years. They are constantly working to support the care and welfare of so many shelters and caregivers of our animals and people who care for them. Tirelessly sharing the stories behind the scenes and the people who run each organization. We are blessed to have them watching out for those in need.
I've followed Be Like Henry for a good number of years now. Cheryl and BLH are this shining light in the world. Such heart! Making the world a better place, one kind, helpful project at a time. When I read her monthly reports of what BLH has accomplished, it's jaw dropping.
BLH has raised funds and literally provided
over half a MILLION pounds of dog food to rescues and shelters. This literally saves dogs by giving the rescuers the ability to say 'yes' to those extra dogs they couldn’t have saved otherwise. But it also reduces the rescuers/staff stress by providing them with resources to complete their mission. And in addition, it results in a person finding their best furry friend to adopt and love. One often hears adopters say that the dog they adopted actually rescued them, being just what they themselves needed.
One of my favorite BLH projects was when they built a kennel at a women's domestic violence shelter. Often a woman won't leave a very bad situation as she can't take a beloved dog with her. The BLH donated kennel allows women in that area to be able to leave with their pet. It literally changes their life, and often a child's life too, when they have a safe harbor that can intake them all.
Cheryl and BLH are the best. I will continue to donate to help them continue to make such a positive difference in the world.
Sauver Des Chiens, a German Shepherd rescue based in Texas, is grateful for the support of Be Like Henry, which generously provides food for our rescued dogs. Their assistance allows us to focus our funds on critical medical needs instead of diverting them to food costs. Be Like Henry has consistently been there for Sauver Des Chiens, helping to alleviate the financial burden of rescuing these wonderful dogs! Karen Blanchard, Founder and President, Sauver Des Chiens German Shepherd Rescue
Be Like Henry is truly a remarkable organization that is making a profound impact on both dogs and the people who care for them. Their commitment to addressing the needs of struggling shelters by providing food for dogs is an incredible lifeline for so many rescues facing financial hardships. The fact that they’ve also expanded their efforts to support the mental health of frontline workers in veterinary clinics and shelters is deeply inspiring.
In a time when burnout and emotional exhaustion are widespread among animal care professionals, Be Like Henry’s initiative to send boxes of goodies and notes of validation is nothing short of heartwarming. These small but meaningful gestures remind those who are often overlooked that they are appreciated, seen, and heard.
On a personal note, our rescue, Change a Life Dog Rescue, had an amazing experience working with Be Like Henry. Having a tent for adoption events is a critical component for our rescue's visibility and outreach. It not only serves as a marketing tool but also provides protection for our volunteers and dogs during events. A good tent with visible branding is not inexpensive, and we never thought it would be within reach for our small nonprofit. However, when we spoke with Cheryl Pliskin, the Founder of Be Like Henry, about it, she immediately said, "We can help you with that." We were floored by her generosity.
Working with Cheryl and the tent company’s design team, we were able to create a tent that is a true marketing statement for our rescue. The result is incredible! We’ve received so many positive comments from people who have seen us at events. Most importantly, people now instantly know who we are and what we do, even among the 50-100 other vendors at these events.
We cannot thank Cheryl and the Be Like Henry team enough for their support and generosity.
The compassion and care that Be Like Henry extends not only to animals but also to the people caring for them is truly admirable. Their mission to strengthen the bond between humans and dogs is beautifully reflected in every project they take on. It’s rare to find a charity that touches lives in such a holistic way, and I am in awe of the difference they are making. If you’re looking for a nonprofit to support, Be Like Henry is one that will truly make your contribution count!
Be Like Henry is a much needed Nonprofit. They do AMAZING work. Please consider supporting, you will not be sorry.
Cheryl and Be Like Henry provide an invaluable service by getting much needed dog food to underserved shelters around the US without the means to fully provide for the animals in their care. Be Like Henry also provides "hugs" in the form of words of support, snacks and coloring books to the overworked humans caring for these animals.
Be Like Henry is a non-profit organization, healing dogs and their people. Henry, an adopted rescue who works as a therapy dog, and his owner, who raises funds to help review in need. This year alone, we have already shipped over 100,000 lbs of dog food, along with beds, coats, birthing accessories ( heat lamps, blankets, etc) andmore. To date we have shipped over 500,000 lbs of dog food across the US. Plus we send notes and gifts to the people who run rescues. They do immense amounts of work, with little thanks. I am proud to be able to contribute to so many rescue operations throughout the US. We ship what they need most. We do not just cut checks and hope it helps the dogs. Shelters and rescues are vetted for their non-profit status. It seems to be a pretty good system!
Be Like Henry generously donates a pallet of dog food every other month to enable the Animal Welfare Center of Ashtabula County to feed the hungry dogs of Ashtabula County. Thank you!
Be Like Henry is unique in that it’s named after a rescued dog who sets an example of helping other shelter dogs and shelter workers who are on the line every day doing difficult work. It’s a community of caring people who have come together to do incredible things from sending out monthly Henry Hugs to rescue workers to shipping thousands of pounds of dog food to help keep shelters open throughout the country
Perhaps the best thing is that it’s grass roots!!!!!
BLH helps so many animal rescues succeed! Always wanting to benefit the animals, BLH helped the animals in a small shelter in Sylacauga, AL by providing a play yard so the dogs could get outside and enjoy games, freedom and fresh air. They also have helped the rescue group by providing safe transport crates for the animals. Their continuing contributions to the animals are life changing.
Helping Henry and Cheryl Pliskin are amazing!!! She runs a GREAT raffle, always is on top of the bidding and runs a very smooth ship!
Her work with the community is unsurpassed..donating to shelters for both 2-legged and 4!! The fact that she runs her "show" only once a week makes it easy to follow.
