Mission: The foundation is the charitable arm of batc-housing first minnesota. Its mission is to provide safe, durable, affordable housing for minnesota's homeless, veterans and others in need. This is accomplished by partnering with local service providers and building professionals to build new homes and rehabilitate existing housing.
Programs: Hearts in housing: in 2017, the batc foundation completed four projects. The largest project was a collaboration with build partner lennar and the minnesota assistance council for veterans (macv) to build a five-bedroom residence to house veteran families as they transition from homelessness. Owned and operated by macv, the home is a special place for veteran families as they receive the support and tools they need to get back on their feet. The rachel project was a collaboration with special spaces and build partner ispiri llc to create space for rachel, a 12 year old girl with chronic crohn's disease and a malformation of the spine. Rachel needed a comfortable space to recover from her many surgeries and keep up on school work. The st. Michael project, done in collaboration with minnesota design & construction, was a kitchen addition, new deck and fourth bedroom for a group home that houses four hardworking men with special needs. The fourth project was for homeward bound, done in collaboration with minnesota rusco and contract interiors inc. The project consisted of renovating two bathrooms and replacing carpet in all common areas of a group home in brooklyn park occupied by 32 homeward bound residents.
scholarships: the scholarship program exists to provide financial assistance to individuals seeking educational opportunities with the goal of a career in the construction industry. In 2017, the foundation provided scholarships to 5 students. The overall goal of the program is to encourage quality candidates and provide opportunity to enter the industry.
rebuilding together: the foundation provided a grant to rebuilding together to fund replacement of a trailer used for their programs
