Although reimbursement for services rendered is critical to the operation and stability of baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon, it is recognized that not all individuals possess the ability to purchase essential medical services, and further, that the mission of baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon is to serve the community with respect to providing healthcare services and healthcare education. (see continuation at schedule o, pg 69)therefore, in keeping with its commitment to serve all members of its community, baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon, inc. Provides the following:--free care and/or subsidized care, where the need and/or an individual's inability to pay co-exist,--care provided to persons covered by governmental programs at below cost, and--health activities and programs to support the community. These activities include wellness programs, community education programs, and special programs for the elderly, handicapped, medically underserved, and a variety of broad community support services. Baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon serviced 878 inpatients, and provided more than 16,635 outpatient services during the fiscal year ending september 30, 2017. During the year, baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon's program services produced the following results including our senior care unit which is a geriatric behavioral care unit that we opened october 1, 2015:--skilled nursing had 5,003 patient days and performed 8,644 procedures at a cost of $4,986,717. --the pharmacy department dispensed 280,662 doses of medication at a cost of $869,836. --the radiology department performed 869,528 procedures at a cost of $869,528. --ambulance services had 2,276 emergency calls at a cost of $969,059. --the laboratory department performed 34,978 procedures at a cost of $781,060. Baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon provides care to persons covered by governmental programs at below cost. Recognizing its mission to the community, services are provided to medicare, medicaid and uninsured patients. To the extent reimbursement is below cost, the hospital recognizes these amounts as charity care in meeting its mission to the entire community. During the year ending, september 30, 2017, the un-reimbursed value of providing care to these patients was $41,934,731. Charity care is also provided through many reduced price services and free programs offered throughout the year based upon activities and services, which baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon believes will serve a bona fide community health, need. Baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon has provided a number of services in the community, some of which include the following: --development of newspaper articles providing the public with ongoing medical care information. --maintaining a facebook page for providing the public with ongoing medical care information, services, and donations. --provided two free health expos for the public that provided medical care information and free screenings: girls day out and community health fair. --provided free cardiac wellness info for women (go red for women booth) during february in recognition of cardiac month. --provided food during thanksgiving for families in need. --provided free blood pressure/blood sugar/cholesterol screens, and health fairs to area communities throughout the year. --home care and hospice division sponsored health fairs for local communities. Baptist memorial hospital- huntingdon also participated in the following:--baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon, baptist memorial regional rehabilitation services and baptist memorial home care participated in the annual business expo with over 1,200 in attendance. This educates the public of the services available as well as provides medical information. --participated in the partners in education program with the huntingdon middle school and provided basic health checks for students participating in school conferences and community projects. --hosted a speakers bureau composed of hospital physicians, management and professional personnel available to speak on healthcare related topics during the year to businesses, clubs, groups, organizations and schools. --provided job shadowing (on-the-job observance program) for prospective medical career students. --served as a training site for several local colleges and universities for health care careers, i. E. Rn, lpn, ems, pt, pta, radiology, and pharmacy--hosted free mental health first aid training for community. Baptist memorial hospital-huntingdon recognizes that its people are its most valuable asset. To share this asset with the community at large, all personnel are encouraged to get involved by volunteering.
