Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Aussie And Me Animal Rescue (AAMAR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to communities and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

The worst experience ever. I tried to adopt a dog from them. I tried to contact them and emailed fhem but never got response. No communication. They had addoption event in Sarasota and I drove there. I met really nice foster mum with 3 years old Aussie I felt in love there. We chat and she had really good feeling me and her foster Aussie Dunkin could be great match. She called to the owner of this “rescue Aussie and me” and said Dunkin could be adopted. They called to my veterinarian for reviews …even I sent them my veterinarian info months ago but they never called him before. I was approved and I could drive with my Aussie Dunkin home! What a terrible terrible experience very next morning! Owner called us and said there was a mistake and Dunkin has to. Be return immediately. I told her it’s not happening! She start screaming and frightening me she will come on the property to get him and he has to be return. She said I am not suitable and safe adopter for him. He has running away history etc. I called the lawyer and he said no worry they can’t take him away. Once you paid the adoption fee you own him. This rescue is a nightmare! Please don’t use them! I have Dunkin now for 9 years. He’s Very happy boy and I am blessed to have him. Again this rescue was the worst experience ever and Dunkin’s foster mum after this stopped volunteering for them. Stay away from them.

I adopted a dog from Aussie and me back in mid April. At the time they seemed slightly disorganized but people with good intentions. Unfortunately i had to give the dog back as she tried to attack my girlfriend after meeting her several times and being calm with her. No fault of anyone in particular. That day i called Karen at Aussie and me and she told me to bring the dog back and i would be refunded. I have waited now for over a month trying to get in contact with the people at Aussie and me. I have only receive one text from them saying that a person in accounting would take care of it and that was 3 weeks ago. Since them i have sent multiple calls, email both standard and admin staff and also have gone as far as reaching out on their Facebook page to see if i can get my money back with no response. I don't blame the people there for the dogs actions. I blame them for the poor response in not getting me my money back as well as the lack of communication between staff members.

I have adopted four dogs from Aussie and Me. I was very pleased with the thorough applicant screening process as well as the vetting. Though the cost seemed high at first, I now understand how much cost is involved in saving these animals. It is worth it to pay for a healthy, vetted pet.

I decided to become a volunteer for Aussie and Me as a result of my adoptions. It is very gratifying to be able to help in any way.
